(US) – Set your “Clocks,” because Coldplay is set to be the 2016 Super Bowl Halftime headliner! The British rock band, which features Chris Martin, Guy Berryman, Jonny Buckland, and Will Champion, has signed on to perform at the annual sporting event’s 50th year, multiple sources confirm exclusively to Us Weekly.
Insiders add that 2013 performer Bruno Mars will also be involved in the show in some capacity, as will other “friends of the group.” Despite previous reports, Maroon 5 and Taylor Swift are not scheduled to take the stage at this time.
Coldplay’s seventh and likely last studio album, A Head Full of Dreams, hits shelves on Friday, Dec. 4.
Super Bowl 50 is set to take place on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2016.
Well this isnt a shock by any means. Coldplay has a new album coming out next month. The NFL likes to generally choose acts that wont offend anyone, you know after that whole Janet thing. So this was a match made in heaven.
The band can help promote their new album, and the NFL gets a non offensive act that skews towards women as well, bonus for them.
Listen I am not going to sit here and be one of those people that sits here and blasts Coldplay and say they suck, because you know what…they dont.
I have seen them live, they put on a good show. They have a bunch of hits that people know. And if you dont like them then change the channel, or go get your fourth helping of chips and dip at halftime. They are not for everyone, but given some of the other choices for halftimes shows in the past, they are good enough.
Now cue all the “You know how I know youre gay” jokes.
