(CBSSports) – Florida International tight end Jonnu Smith’s 2016 season and college career have come to an end after a domestic dispute between Smith and his pregnant girlfriend.
Mary Gaspar, who is five months pregnant with Smith’s child, dumped a pot of boiling water on Smith in his dorm room on Halloween, according to the Miami Herald.
Smith suffered severe burns to his head, neck, back, shoulder and arm. Gaspar was charged with aggravated battery and has since been released on a pre-trial release order.
Gaspar told police that she and Smith had been arguing throughout the day about the attention that Smith was paying to her and their relationship. She said she was “feeling extremely emotional and stressed” when she decided to boil a pot of water in Smith’s dorm room and then pour it onto Smith.
Gaspar also told police that when Smith’s reaction to having boiling water poured onto him wasn’t strong enough, she began hitting him with open hands.
By all accounts this dude was one of the better players on the FIU offense, and now has his season ended due to some boiling water. Not a blown ACL, or a busted shoulder, or concussion, but because his pregnant girlfriend dumped boiling water on his head!!! Good luck explaining that one to the NFL draft scouts.
And how about that last line: “Gaspar also told police that when Smith’s reaction to having boiling water poured onto him wasn’t strong enough, she began hitting him with open hands.”
Are you serious? Guy’s skin is melting off and he doesnt react enough for you so she puts the hands on him?
Hey Jonnu, bit of advice my man…….RUN!
